Where data lives
Customer records are stored in a managed Postgres database in the United States (us-east-1), and the apps are served from a United States East region. See the subprocessor list for every outside service involved.
Encryption
All traffic is encrypted in transit with TLS. Data at rest is encrypted by our database, hosting and storage providers. Sensitive HR pay fields carry an extra layer of encryption inside the application.
Payments and payroll data
Card and bank details are handled by our payment providers (Stripe, Authorize.net), and full Social Security and bank account numbers for payroll are held by Check, our payroll provider, not stored in our database.
Access
Each organization's data is kept separate by the application, and access inside the apps is role-based. Platform admin access is limited to named staff, and administrative changes are recorded in an audit log.
Backups
The database host keeps point-in-time recovery, and a separate full copy is made every night and kept for 30 days. We do not yet guarantee specific recovery time objectives.
